Are you or someone you know interested in different modes of creative
collaboration? Then E|MERGE 2020 is for you!
The E|MERGE Interdisciplinary Collaborative Residency is a two-week long
creative residency at Earthdance in the Berkshire mountains of
Massachusetts. Curated participants from many different disciplines come
together to explore new modes of creation and collective decision-making
processes. Through structures that allow for risk-taking and alternate
methods for creation—horizontal organization, collective
decision-making, cross-disciplinary collaboration, nonlinear
process—E|MERGE provides a fertile space for pushing the boundaries of
collaboration and leadership, undoing assumptions about creative
processes, and exploring how creative practices transform our
Participants live, work, cook, and create together with a with a sense
of sharing and support for each other's work. Residents are encouraged
to engage and test their own creative boundaries in a way that serves
their own personal processes and explorations, and also contribute to
the creative pursuits of their fellow residents, weaving a fabric of
immersion and discovery. The residents, facilitated by the E|MERGE
curators and Earthdance staff and community, determine the daily
structural aspects of the residency, beyond time necessitated in order
to facilitate the communal living experience.
Participants share access to Earthdance's beautiful dance studios,
alternate on-site locations for installations and performances, as well
as engage with the extended hilltown creative community and over 125
acres of (snow-covered) meadow and forest. Participants stay in
communal-style housing and work together to prepare meals and care for
This residency is ideal for those interested in collaborating and
cross-pollinating ideas with artists from other disciplines and
backgrounds. E|MERGE is a unique residency that has grown organically
into a national and international network of highly skilled artists who
continue to support and develop one another's work, beyond the residency
itself. The program is produced and curated by Cory Neale, Mira
Treatman, and Sarah Young.
Past residents have said:
"So nourishing and fulfilling, rigorous and relaxed, healing and
self-guided, based around structures of eating together."
"The unstructure within the structure- the freedom to really go off and
be my own project person."
"The collaborative exploration fed my own process."
"… taking my time, slowing down, and being informed by the many
conversation, dates, and encounters with other participants."
"Respect, love, freedom, calm, silence, magic."
