About this workshop:
Arts educators impart creative lessons from a set of learned cultural values. What are compassionate, effective ways to use dance education in a cross-cultural setting? Join in for some practical tools and activities to explore the rich cultural background that students and teachers bring to a dance experience. Drawing on her own discoveries as well as experience with Contra-Tiempo in Los Angeles, Dance Exchange, and Yes! And… Collaborative Arts, teaching artist Belle Alvarez will facilitate a workshop that invites dance and arts educators to consider the cultural impact of community arts education.

Honduran born, Philippine and USA raised, Belle Alvarez is an artist and educator working with dance and social engagement at the intersections of art, activism, and interfaith organizing. Belle earned a BFA in Dance from Temple University and is an Associate in Performance instructing modern dance at Swarthmore College.

About Dance TAG:

Dance TAG (Teaching Artists Group) is a collegial gathering of teaching artists for movement ideas, information, discussion, and networking. We invite artists at all stages of their teaching — rookies, veterans, people currently working or those looking for work, especially artists in schools and community situations — who consider teaching to be an integral part of their artistic work. The sessions tend to be very inspiring and relevant for artistic inquiry as well as teaching.
