HULA HOOPS and TAP SHOES: Dance your way to math with Christine Colosimo

Connect to the world of math explored through dance. Hula hoops will lead us to pre-multiplication concepts and tap dance rhythms will take us to multiplication facts, associative and distributive properties, and more. Pick up some learning theory and teaching tools to spark your imagination for connecting academic content to dance. Bring tap shoes if you have them; extra pairs will be provided. These activities are geared towards pre-k through third grade but can be adapted to other settings and populations.

Christine Colosimo is NJ State Certified in both Dance Education and K-5 Elementary Education and has been teaching dance to children for over 30 years. A choreographer, dancer and arts advocate, she is an arts integration specialist, teaching math, science and literacy curricula through dance in public school residencies. Christine is also an adjunct professor in dance history at both Rider University and Temple University and is now pursuing a PhD in dance studies at Temple University where she is writing about the modern dancer Erick Hawkins as an early somatics theorist and practitioner.
