JE Kim - dance
Gene Coleman - bass clarinet
Ashley Anderson - dance
Sheila Zagar - dance
Dan Blacksberg - trombone
Special Mystery Guest - ?*!#?

JE Kim performs "dance from a small room". She tries to create her own
"small room" inside herself and and share that room with others. JE is
from Seoul, South Korea. She is a dancer, choreographer, video artist
and web designer. After recently moving to Philadelphia and being in
the United States for almost three years now, she is very happy to
have found a new home where she can develop new relationships with
artists in the community and expand her ideas. http://www.jekim.org/

Gene Coleman is a composer, musician and artistic director. He has
created over 40 works for various instrumentation, often-using complex
notations and improvisation in the same score. Radical use of the
instrument's sound producing possibilities makes Coleman, both as a
composer and as a performer, a musician who seeks a greater synthesis
between what is called sound (or noise) and what is called music.
Since 2001 his work has focused on globalization and music's
relationship with architecture and video.

JE performs "Holiday", choreographed by Ashley Anderson. Both ladies
are members of map dance collective, a group of Hollins University
alums, recently relocated to Philly. MDC says "We move to connect. We
move to remember. We move to understand - space, time, our bodies,
ourselves, and each other." http://www.myspace.com/mapdancecollective

Sheila Zagar performs "Blessed Consumption", a structured
improvisation in 3 parts with with cartoonist/musician Bob Pistilli on
keyboard and harmonica. Sheila Zagar has been teaching and performing
in Philadelphia for decades. In 2004 she was awarded a grant from the
Five County Arts Fund, in support of the creation of an older adult
dance / theater performance. Ms Zagar has received 3 yearlong grants
from the Philadelphia Corporation for the Aging. Sheila's work has
been seen on television in the United States and Germany. In September
2008 she will premier an evening work at Isaiah Zagar¹s Philadelphia
Magic Garden. http://www.citypaper.net/articles/113095/article015.shtml

Daniel Blacksberg plays a "Pieces of Trombone". He received his
Bachelor of Music in jazz performance from the New England
Conservatory, where he studied with Bob Brookmeyer, Joe Morris, Ran
Blake and Joe Maneri. Upon returning to Philadelphia, he became active
in the city's rapidly growing creative jazz and improvised music
scene. He has performed with such notable musicians as Joe Morris,
Joe Maneri, Daniel Levin, Jack Wright, Bobby Zankel, Mike Pride,
Taylor Ho Bynum, Steve Lantner, Gene Coleman, Katt Hernandez, Irene
Aebi, Danilo Perez, Gunther Schuller and Anthony Braxton."

The StudioSeries is a monthly, informal series featuring performance
in all media by some of the East coast's most exciting artists. Come
check out their work while it's raw, and in the works. Feel free to
hang afterwards, meet the artists and chat with them about their work.

We're taking a break for August. Next performance in Sept 20th. Stay
tuned for details.
