Call for Entries 
6th Annual Motion Pictures -A Festival of Dance Films
June 18-27, 2008   AT UArts on the Avenue of the Arts, Phila. PA USA

Philadelphia Dance Projects in partnership with Scribe Video Center seek new 
dance films to be part of the 2008 edition of Motion Pictures, a 
non-competitive mini-film festival showcasing documentaries and art films that explore 
choreographic process and creativity.   Film and video serve as a natural 
collaborative medium for dance, highlighting the power of image and motion in both. 
Motion Pictures is co-curated by Gretjen Clausing, Program Director Scribe Video 
and Terry Fox, Philadelphia Dance Projects.   

Feature length films are considered but we are most interested in short 
films. And Motion Pictures is specifically interested in new short works by 
Philadelphia based filmmakers, dancers and choreographers. Motion Pictures showcases 
films from all over the world presented in thematic programs.

About Motion Pictures 

Motion Pictures is an interdisciplinary mini-festival explores the art of 
capturing dance on film.   Motion Pictures debuted in 2004.   Highlights of past 
Motion Pictures include: Jocelyn Ajami's Queen of the Gypsies: A Portrait 
of Carmen Amaya  profiling the flamenco legend; Lilos Mangelsdorf's Damen und 
Herren ab 65 documents a project of famed choreographer Pina Bausch: Enter 
Achilles, a collaboration between choreographer Lloyd Newson, theater company 
DV8 and director Clara Van Gool. Motion Pictures also highlights the local dance 
films with the Shorts Blow Out.   Past films by Philadelphia filmmakers have 
included Michael Dimirjian's When Dancers Go Bowling, Carmella Vassor Johnson 
and Lisa Kraus' Tracing Lineage and Nadine Patterson's Release.           .

Motion Pictures is also a touring partner of Dance Film Association and will 
feature selected films from the 2008 edition of the Dance on Camera Festival 
which premiered at the Film Society of Lincoln Center in January 2008.

FESTIVAL ENTRY REGULATIONS

1.     Preview entries must be NTSC-VHS or DVD. Festival screening formats 
are MiniDV, DVCam or DVD.
2.     Preview DVD/VHS along with the Official Entry Form should arrive at 
the PDP office no later than May 12, 2008
3.     IF YOU WOULD LIKE YOUR PREVIEW MEDIA RETURNED PLEASE SEND SELF 
ADDRESSED MAILER WITH RETURN POSTAGE. We are not responsible for returning preview 
media without a specific request and postage.
4.     300 dpi photo jpgs (limit 3) should be emailed to

(names of the dancers in photo, filmmakers and photographer).
6.     Motion Pictures is given the right to use excerpts from your video, if 
chosen for the festival, in all Motion Pictures promotional materials.
