[PhiladelphiaDANCE.org Listserv] the changing face of arts criticism

Just in case anyone hasn't yet heard, the Village Voice's dance critic of 40
years, Deborah Jowitt, has been fired. Hearing this I thought "this is the
end" (of dance criticism as we've known it). If she, doyenne of American
dance criticism, can get the boot, the ground is precarious everywhere for
writing on dance in print. See:

and <http://www.artsjournal.com/stagewrite/>
http://www.artsjournal.com/stagewrite/ - this latter is Elizabeth Zimmer's
new blog (she was Jowitt's editor, fired earlier)

A related piece appeared in the New York Times this morning on parallel
developments in film criticism titled "Now on the Endangered Species List:
Movie Critics in Print"

The fact that you can read great critics online is good, but the internet
has not yet figured out how to pay them, and expertise like Jowitt's needs a
paycheck.
