Afro-Modern Dance Class
 Taught by Leslie Parker

This class builds upon folk dances such as the Ring
Shout, Charleston, and Cakewalk. It explores elements
of African culture, retained in African American
vernacular traditions, that have contributed largely
to the dance forms of the African Diaspora. The
movement is inspired by the concept of “Sankofa” — the
belief that the past provides a guide to the present. 
Afro-Modern dance is an eclectic movement style that
incorporates both Contemporary and African techniques.
Come enjoy a visceral and vigorous class open to
various experience levels.
